Extended Ferry Hours to Begin July 21, 2014

At a June 12 meeting sponsored by the Algiers Point Association, the RTA announced extended service hours for the Algiers Point / Canal Street Ferry. The new hours will go into effect July 21. The first trip each day departs from Algiers Point and the last ferry leaves from Canal Street. The new hours will be:

Monday through Friday: 6 a.m. to 9:45 p.m.                                                               (First trip from Algiers Point at 6a.m., last trip from Canal Street at 9:45 p.m.)

Saturday hours unchanged: 10:45 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Sunday hours unchanged: 10:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Councilmember Nadine Ramsey and Senator David Heitmeier worked to identify funds to extend the service hours.

Monthly passes for the ferries will also be available starting July 1. Passes will cost $65 and will be sold on the ferries; customers must pay cash. Each pass will be good for both the Canal Street-Algiers Point and the Chalmette-Algiers ferries. The passes will be good for one calendar month and will be worth $2 per pass per trip.
