The Orleans Parish Assessor’s Office will hold an open rolls period Wednesday (July 15) through Aug. 17 during which property owners can visit the assessor at four locations across the city and file informal appeals of their taxable assessments.

To contest an assessment value, people should bring an assessment letter and “any additional documentation to support their claim, such as a recent appraisal, a builder’s contract, photos or insurance coverage of the property,” according to the assessor’s office.

“You do not dispute the property assessment because you think your taxes are too high. That is a discussion to take up with the taxing authorities,” Assessor Erroll Williams said in statement. “You should see me because you think the value placed on your property is inaccurate due to estimations on its size, comparable sales or market values.”

The open roll period will be held place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the following locations:

–City Hall, 1300 Perdido St., 4th floor

–Algiers Courthouse, 225 Morgan St., 1st floor

–Lakeview Christian Center, 5885 Fleur De Lis Drive, 2nd floor (July 15 to Aug. 17 only)

–New Orleans East satellite, 5555 Bullard Ave., Suite 103 (July 15 to Aug. 17 only)

Property owners can also file formal appeals with the Orleans Parish Board of Review by going to www.nolaassessor.com. Click the E-File link in the left column then click Appeal of Taxable Valuation. This link will be operational from July 22 through 4 p.m. Aug. 20.

RTA Open House, July 29, 2015

The public is invited to an Open House meeting at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, in the RTA Boardroom at 2817 Canal Street to provide input regarding the location of a Downtown Transit Center. The transit Center would provide connections between buses and streetcars for many of the city’s transit routes

Participants will evaluate preliminary sites and designs to assist the project team in determining a feasible alternative that will meet requirements for Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funding.

Those who need special assistance to participate in the meeting, including language translation, should call 504-228-2626 at least 48 hours in advance to make necessary arrangements.
